Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop, update, and enforce health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in compliance with local regulations and industry standards;
• Ensure that safety policies are effectively communicated and understood by all employees;
• Work with management to achieve alignment and consistency in safety practices across departments;
• Stay updated on Maltese health and safety regulations and standards, informing the team of relevant changes;
• Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety laws within the organization;
• Monitor emerging technologies, equipment, and best practices to improve workplace safety;
• Maintain a thorough reference library of applicable legislation;
• Conduct regular site inspections, both on-site and off-site, to verify compliance with safety policies;
• Identify workplace hazards and risks, implementing effective risk management strategies;
• Lead investigations into workplace incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough documentation and analysis;
• Track incident data and develop strategies to prevent similar occurrences;
• Design and deliver training programs to enhance health and safety awareness;
• Foster a safety-conscious culture within the organization;
• Conduct safety induction training for new hires in collaboration with HR;
• Coordinate with internal training staff and external consultants for health and safety training;
• Develop and maintain emergency response procedures, organizing regular drills for fire, medical, and chemical incidents;
• Collaborate with department heads and employees to strengthen the safety culture and provide guidance on safety matters;
• Document findings from training sessions, inspections, and drills, recommending improvements as needed;
• Advise on safety considerations in the procurement of new equipment;
• Support the risk assessment process for equipment and operational activities;
• Liaise with external regulatory bodies and auditors on health and safety matters;
• Partner with external consultants for inspections and safety assessments;
• Actively participate in the Health & Safety Committee, preparing meeting minutes and addressing employee safety concerns.

Experience

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Malta or an equivalent qualification (MQRIC Level 5 or higher);
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in managing health and safety practices;
• Excellent English and Maltese communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Proficiency in health and safety software and other essential computer applications.
